Night Falls Darkly - By Kim Lennox

Rating: Full Moon (3 out of 5)

Death is inevitable.
But there are some souls,
more wicked and disobedient than most,
who defy Death’s claim.
Rebellious souls who must be called to heel.

A Look Into the Story: Elena Whitney is an orphan who, after getting into an accident and losing her memory began a life at the house of Archer, Lord Black; her tall and mysterious guardian whom she is beginning to become even more attracted to. Training to become a physician, Elena is already being courted by the kind Dr. Charles Harcourt but still feels a connection to Archer. Something about him makes her even more curious about her past and why her guardian has returned to London.

Archer is a member of the Order of the Shadow Guards; a select group of immortals who hold the responsibility of ridding the world of evil souls. His reason for coming back to his home in London is to hunt down the evil soul that is Jack the Ripper. With Queen Victoria requesting him to stay focused on his job at hand, Archer feels that being around Elena will only cause him to become distracted so he tries to distance himself while at the same time trying to protect the women on the streets at night. As time passes between them, Archer finds it harder and harder to keep his secrets from Elena as well as his need to act on his desires for her but those desires soon turn into worries when his young ward becomes Jack the Ripper's next target.

~Overall Thoughts~

I've always loved when historical mixes with paranormal, it's another poison of mine. With the Shadow Guard being set in Victorian London; my favorite, I was looking forward to reading this first book. In the beginning, things moved along kind of slow but it was still interesting in some ways. To me, it felt more like a work of paranormal fiction and mystery than a true "Romance Novel" the characters had their fun and interesting moments with one another; like when Elena dares Archer to get his first tattoo to match her own. Their was the attraction between them and the result of it was shown in the end. Overall I did enjoy reading Night Falls Darkly, as a work of mystery and fiction with characters that had their points of interest while I read through the story.

Favorite Moment: Archer needs a hair cut and asks Elena to do it. She begins to remember how she used to cut her grandfather's hair in the past, but the way she is leaning closer to Archer makes him believe she wants to kiss him....until she blurts out "I used to cut hair, I can do this!" while grinning. This of course....makes Archer very disappointed, and even...frustrated. [men always hope for their desired woman to want them don't they? :)]

Pleasure of a Dark Prince - By Kresley Cole

Rating: New Moon (4 out of 5)

A DANGEROUS BEAUTY
Lucia the Huntress: as mysterious as she is exquisite, she harbors secrets that threaten to destroy her—and those she loves.
AN UNCONTROLLABLE NEED
Garreth MacRieve, Prince of the Lykae: the brutal Highland warrior who burns to finally claim this maddeningly sensual creature as his own.

~Read an Excerpt ~

A Look into the story: Pleasure of a Dark Prince is the 9th book in Kresley Cole’s “The Immortals After Dark” series. It’s main couple involves a werewolf, Garreth MacRieve , who’s tan, built, perverted and loving, and has a Scottish accent you learn to love. Lucia, or as Garreth says “Lousha” is a Valkerie who has vowed to remain chaste throughout her immortal life; if she breaks this vow she loses her powers as an archer, which of course makes the relationship between her and her werewolf more complicated and dangerous in her eyes.
After failing at her attempt to kill Garreth, Lucia finds herself becoming attracting to the werewolf, but she fears him more than anything so she keeps her distance, even going as far as to avoid MacRieve for an entire year while going around the world; all while she was clueless to the fact that the man was watching her the entire time, wanting only to claim and protect her from harm. But the run doesn’t continue any longer than Lucia had hoped, because she soon finds herself having to go into the Amazon rainforest in search of something that will help with preventing an apocalypse. All seems to be going well for her, that is, until she sees Garreth running towards the boat she’s on. Now she’s stuck with him because over the past year, his desire for her as only grown stronger and he’s no longer willing to let her escape so easily. The real problem is, Lucia’s no longer sure that she really wants to run from the man anymore.
~Overall Thoughts~
I’ve been waiting for this couple for a while now and I loved how the myth and the lore were fully involved in their world and how human interaction wasn’t a huge problem; allowing the characters to show their true selves instead of hiding themselves behind “normal” masks. Minor characters like Nix were hilarious and made the book even more enjoyable to read. Another thing that touched my heart was MacRieve’s personality. Even though he was a complete pervert with Lucia and thought…highly of his male body, he still had that sweet and loving side to offer to her and prove that he would be by her side to protect her always (Just like any good and loveable dog would do

Favorite moment: [Garreth is going to jump into the Amazon river shirtless and is about to take off his jeans]
Lucia:"What about the piranhas?"
Garreth: "I doubt the little fishies will snack on anything critical. They only go for small prey." (
The male ego...at it's peak)

The Darkest Night - By Gena Showalter

                                            Summary

The lords of the underworld are immortal warriors that have served and fought for the king of the Greek gods [yep, this series is about Greek mythology]. When the lords are not chosen to protect the magical box known as 'Pandora’s box' they become angry and vengeful towards the gods and decide to steal the box themselves and set the demons within it free. However, the box becomes lost and with the demons having nowhere to return to, the lords are punished and forced to become the hosts of demons such as wrath, pain , disease, violence and promiscuity forever. Having the evil voices of these demons within their heads has caused the warriors to not only become corrupted but even hopeless. In the present, these warriors live in a castle located in Budapest where they attempt to remain secluded and out of reach of the hunters trying to capture them.[These hunters wish to rid the world of evil so the lords, of course, are their main targets]

A look into the story: This first book is, of course, only an intro to the series. The warrior Maddox is made to be the main character of “The Darkest Night” and he is the host of violence. Each night he tries to fight against his demon’s desires to fight and kill anything in its path; which is what earned Maddox another punishment. After murdering Pandora the god’s decided that each night Maddox would be killed and sent to hell to be tortured, only to wake up in the morning and have to go through the same act the next night.

Ashlyn Darrow is a human who holds the power of clairaudience; she can hear voices and conversations in her head. Working for a company that deals in the paranormal she hears word of men who live in a fortress in Budapest who are angels, or demons and so Ashlyn goes to find them hoping they can help her with this power of hers. Those thoughts of hers soon change once she finds herself in the home of the cursed warriors; all men and all of them not wanting her there. All except Paris [keeper of promiscuity] who’s just looking for his next woman to sleep with. After witnessing the murder of Maddox Ashlyn angry towards these warriors and wishes for nothing else other than to see the man again; one of her reasons being that whenever she is with Maddox, the voices in her mind disappear and her mind can actually be at peace with him. Once the keeper of violence returns from his trip to hell there are a lot of questions Ashlyn wants answered but Maddox isn’t exactly sure how much he should let her know since he knows what’s at stake.

~Overall thoughts (4 out of 5 full moons)~

After reading through the first book, I did like the whole background story and plot. It did connect well to Greek mythology. The main idea that they’re paying for their deeds and having to get past their punishments definitely kept me interested and I think that Gena Showalter will expand on that idea with more characters and ideas. One thing that got to me a little was how quick Ashlyn and Maddox ‘wanted’ one another. The very first night Maddox was already claiming Ashlyn as his, saying in his mind “mine, mine to claim’ Sorry but…on the first night you want to possess a woman all to yourself?...I guess some people wouldn’t mind that. Even Ashlyn was quick to just want to be with Maddox; and after knowing him for only about ten minutes….maybe that’s what you can call ‘love at first sight? Or attraction at first sight if you’d prefer. Each character is interesting enough to keep me looking forward to the next books, I just hope that Gena Showalter will create more couples that I’ll become more entertained by. Nothing against Ashlyn and Maddox.
Favorite Quote: ..."oh gods" (simple enough yet fun to say)

~Inagural Post~

As my first blog I have hopes of meeting even more paranormal romance lovers and just novel lovers in general. I want to continue my passion of reading and write reviews on the books that I hold dear to my heart...and maybe even the ones that I hold in my trash bin (although that's usually a rare thing) Now then....it's that time to list my goals for this blog, 1.) Expand my knowledge of the paranormal realm 2.) Interview authors 3.) Hold a giveaway 4.) Get some guest speakers 5.)Voice my opinions while also hearing the opinions of others. There are many things that keep my love for novels growing, like the many talented authors that continue writing more and more books for our enjoyment. Both the characters and interesting plots of my favorite writers are what inspire me the most and I hope that never changes. So once again thanks for taking a look at my blog and I hope you enjoy it.

[P.s I'm open to any recommendations given so feel free to leave comments or messages. :) ]
